July 11 -- SUN CITY CENTER, FL -- A male firefighter was injured Tuesday night at Fire Station 28, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

The firefighter had been dispatched to an emergency call around 5:30 p.m. when he was injured in front of the station at 4551 Sun City Center Blvd., said Fire Rescue spokesman Eric Seidel.

The injury "was accidental and involved trauma to the body," according to a news release.

Other media reports say the firefighter apparently fell out of an engine as it was leaving the station.

The injured firefighter was treated at the scene and then flown to a local hospital for medical treatment, Seidel said, and was still being evaluated that evening.

The agency did not identify the firefighter, disclose how they were injured or release any information about their medical condition.

The cause of the injury is currently under investigation.
