Louisiana police are investigating an incident in which firefighters were pelted with water balloons and insults during a call over the weekend.

The harassment came while Shreveport firefighters were responding to medical emergency Sunday, KTBS-TV reports. During the call, firefighters had to fend off thrown water balloons and offensive comments, which led to them contacting authorities.

Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond told KTBS that officers were called to the area of the EMS call at least five times for loud music, loitering and minor accidents. While police did respond to one of the incidents related to the fire department call, officers did assist the firefighers at the scene.

"What I'm not so sure of is whether our officers knew that the firemen had been accosted, or water balloons had been thrown at them," Raymond told KTBS.

Investigators will try to determine if police responded appropriately or if they missed something in connection with the incident involving firefighters, Raymond said. No charges have been filed in water balloon incident.
