A Minnesota firefighter was fatally shot in his home Monday night.
Thomas R. Harrigan, a St. Paul firefighter and paramedic, was shot in his home on the east side of St. Paul at about 8:30 p.m., according to the city's firefighters union. Paramedics from the Harrigan's department responded to the scene and provided "life-saving emergency care" before taking him to a local hospital, where he died in the emergency room.
"Firefighter Tom Harrigan was a Firefighter/Paramedic, a Veteran, a Union Brother and a good friend to many," St. Paul Firefighters, Local 21, said in a statement. "Firefighter Harrigan will be greatly missed by the Men and Women of Local 21 and the St. Paul Fire Department."
Police are investigating the shooting and trying to identify a suspect, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports. Investigators don't believe Harrigan's shooting was random.
“No arrests have been made in that case yet,” St. Paul spokesman Steve Linders told the Pioneer Press on Tuesday. “Our investigators continue to work hard to identify suspects.”
Funeral arrangements for Harrigan are pending, according to the union.
