Maryland firefighters performed CPR on a colleague who was found unconscious at a fire station Sunday.
Crews at Anne Arundel County's Lake Shore Fire Station in Pasadena were dressing to respond to a fire in Jacobsville just before 1 p.m., when Capt. Donald Kelley, 62, fell unconscious, WMAR-TV reports. He was discovered on the floor of the apparatus bay, and other department members called 9-1-1 while working to revive their colleague.
According to the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Kelley suffered a heart attack, and an automated external defibrillator was used to resuscitate him before paramedics arrived. He was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center and then transferred to the University of Maryland Medical, where he was in stable condition Monday.
“Fortunately for Captain Kelley, it happened in a fire station...” Capt. Russ Davies told the Gazette. “His colleagues, even though in a stressful situation, performed very well.”
Kelley is a 33-year-veteran with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and is the commander for the Lake Shore fire company, the news outlet added.
