CA Firefighter Tests Positive for Coronavirus

The Alameda firefighter is being quarantined outside the county, and the city is increasing the frequency and level of cleaning at all its fire stations and municipal facilities, a spokeswoman said.

ALAMEDA, CA—An Alameda firefighter has tested positive for COVID-19, the city announced Wednesday.

The firefighter is currently being quarantined somewhere outside Alameda County, but city officials did not offer more details.

In the wake of the report, Alameda spokeswoman Sarah Henry said the city is increasing the frequency and level of cleaning at its facilities, including at all fire stations.

CORONAVIRUS RESOURCES:

In addition to enhancing cleaning, Alameda is canceling or postponing large city-sponsored events and promoting recommended actions to slow the spread of COVID-19 to employees and residents, Henry said.

The city has also ordered 17 hand sanitizing stations to be put in place across Alameda.

“We are taking a lot of action to really encourage people to take precautions to slow the spread of this disease,” Henry said.
