FDNY EMT in 2015 Ambulance Crash Takes Own Life

An FDNY EMT committed suicide last week, at least the third EMT in the department to take his or her during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Off-duty EMT Bradon Dorsa, 36, died Wednesday on Long Island, the New York Post reports. With the FDNY since October 2014, Dorsa suffered serious physical and psychological injuries when an SUV collided with his ambulance in 2015.
“We are saddened to hear that another FDNY EMT has taken his life,” Oren Barzilay, president of FDNY EMS, Local 2507, told the Post . “PTSD is very common among EMS providers, not just here in NYC but throughout our country, more so in recent months." with on a daily basis,” .
Dorsa's death marks at least the third suicide by an FDNY EMT during this year's pandemic. EMT John Mondello, 23, died from a self-inflicted gunshot in April, and Lt. Matthew Keene, 38, took his own life in June.
