COVID-19 Claims Life of MD Fire Chief

A Maryland fire chief with more than a half century of combined career and volunteer firefighting experience died Tuesday of COVID-19 complications.
Nicholas "Nick" Finamore was the current chief of the Allentown Road Volunteer Fire Department at the time of his death, Prince George's County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics Association stated in an online update. Previously, he had served as a deputy chief with the Prince George's County Fire Department before retiring.

"He was well known in the fire service, and well respected by all that had the privilege to know and work alongside him," the firefighters union stated. "Chief Finamore was considered a pioneer in the Prince George's County Fire Department, a true leader and the epitome of the perfect Fire Fighter."
Following Finamore's death, firefighters from Prince George's and the Anne Arundel counties escorted the chief's body, along with his family, from the hospital.
"There was never a shortage of stories about Chief Finamore and his love for the job," the firefighters union stated. "This is a loss that many will mourn, while they reflect on the mark that he left on the Prince George's County Fire Department."
