Car Fleeing Crash Scene Strikes MS Firefighters, Apparatus

Two Mississippi firefighters were injured when they were struck by a car while responding to a crash last week.
The incident happened after the Jackson Fire Department was called to help at an accident Friday, WJTV-TV reports. Once at the scene, crews found a vehicle had slammed into a pole at a city intersection, and the driver appeared to be sleeping.
After firefighters approached the car and opened a door, the driver suddenly put the vehicle in reverse, and the open door struck two firefighters, according to WLBT-TV. The car also struck a department rescue pumper at the scene before fleeing the scene.

The firefighters taken to the hospital, and their injuries were not considered life-threatening. According to WAPT-TV, a Jackson apparatus appeared to be damaged in the incident.
Police eventually were able to apprehend the driver, and authorities found nearly $20,000 in drugs in his possession.
