LA FF Hospitalized after Jumping from an Overpass to Avoid Semi
A Lafayette firefighter is in serious but stable condition after jumping off an overpass to avoid being struck by a semi while working an accident scene on Interstate 10 Thursday night.
Law enforcement officials said the injured fireman was on the truck and was forced to jump over a guardrail falling approximately 20 feet to avoid being hit by the semi.
The driver of the semi, Nathan A. Martin, 51, of Mississippi, faces charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, open alcohol container, OWI first-offense, and vehicular negligent injuring, KLFY 10 reported.
Martin is in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center with no bond set. The firefighter has not yet been identified.
