Mayday Called, Three Dallas FFs Burned in House Fire

June 30, 2022
Three members of Dallas Fire-Rescue were hospitalized with varying degrees of burn injuries after becoming disoriented during a house fire.

At 12:15 a.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue units responded to a 9-1-1 call for a structure fire at a home located at 2246 Mail Avenue, in Northwest Dallas.

According to a statement by the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, when firefighters arrived, they observed smoke coming from the front, and heavy fire from the side, of the one-story wood-framed home.

They forced entry through the front door and were immediately overcome by extreme heat.

The conditions forced firefighters to immediately retreat, but during the process one of the firefighters became disoriented and initiated a mayday, which also resulted in a second-alarm response.

That team of firefighters managed to self-extricate, with the assistance of additional firefighters already on scene, and the mayday response was cancelled.

There was one occupant inside the home when the fire began, but she was able to make it out safely.

After being interviewed by fire investigators, the occupant, identified as 29-year-old Diana Marie Davila, admitted that she set the fire and was placed under arrest.

All three injured firefighters were taken to Parkland Hospital with varying degrees of burn injuries.

None of their injuries are considered to be life-threatening; and while two have been admitted one has already been treated and released.
