Hours before the funeral for Richville Volunteer Firefighter Jayson Lowery, his wife, aunt and a friend were killed in a car crash.
According to WWNY News, Jayson Lowery, who died suddenly from a brain condition, was laid to rest Saturday.
He was a volunteer with the Oxbow and Richville fire departments and an emergency medical technician for the Gouverneur Rescue Squad.
Lowery's uncle, Jim Henry, came across crash debris on Chub Lake Road in the town of Fowler.
He then saw the car on its roof in the creek below.
Henry's wife, Jackie, and daughter, Joy, were in the car.
Henry, a volunteer with the Richville Fire Department, heard his daughter screaming for help and jumped into action.
“There was a lot of adrenaline and stuff. When I jumped in the water, like, it didn’t even cross my mind; it was just automatically getting the people out,” Henry told WWNY.
He pulled his daughter and a family friend out of the wreckage. His daughter is fine, but the friend was badly injured.
Jackie Henry and her best friend, Lorraine Stevens, died at Gouverneur Hospital.
Desiree Lowery, the wife of Jayson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jayson and Desiree leave behind three your daughters, who will be placed in the care of an aunt.
