The medic and a patient were flown to a trauma center.

Five people were injured, including a medic and patient, in an ambulance crash Saturday at a Kentucky intersection.

The preliminary investigation determined the Wayne County ambulance was eastbound on KY 90 enroute to a Lexington hospital with a patient when it came up on an intersection where the light was red, Monticello Police reported on its Facebook page.

The ambulance driver, EMT Elizabeth Smith, slowed up as she approached the intersection. Police reported a 2001 Dodge pickup truck struck the rig, causing it to turn onto its side.

Paramedic Peggy Tucker and the patient, Donald Spann, 77, were flown to trauma centers for treatment while Smith and Abe Henson, the truck driver, and Shanna Mason, his passenger, were taken to a local hospital.
