NJ Firefighter Died After Response to Station for Call

Upper Saddle River Firefighter Alex Moss, 54, died Sunday, Oct. 30.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday for a New Jersey firefighter who died of an apparent heart attack after a response.

Upper Saddle River Firefighter Alex Moss responded to his station last Sunday for a residential fire alarm call.

He remained at the station and told colleagues he didn't feel well and went home, according to the US Fire Administration.

In the early afternoon, his wife found him deceased in bed from an apparent heart attack.

Moss had been a volunteer with Upper Saddle River for 30 years.

His death brings to 85 the number of on-duty firefighter fatalities so far this year, the USFA reported.

A wake will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff, NJ.

A memorial service will be held at noon Sunday, Nov. 6 at Upper Saddle River Fire Department.

Firefighters are asked to wear Class A uniforms.
