"I know I'm going to be sore tomorrow. It could have been worse, much worse."
That's what Montgomery County Firefighter Jamie Drawbaugh had to say a few hours after an incident with a truck near the scene of a previous wreck on Lewisdale Road Monday afternoon.
"I went to the bottom of the hill to stop traffic because the road was blocked," he explained.
While other motorists turned around, the operator of a Ford F-150 tried to drive around him. The man, who was irate, said his in-laws were in the wreck, and he was going to the scene.
"I was leaning at the door talking to him when he mashed down on the accelerator. I tumbled and rolled. I could have been run over..."
Drawbaugh was out of sight of other firefighters. However, they came running when they heard tires spinning and a vehicle accelerate.
"I was assessing my injuries, the bleeding, and getting ready to call it in when I saw them..."
He suffered cuts to his hands and forearm and a knee injury. He was released after treatment at a local hospital.
"I keep thinking how lucky I was..."
Drawbaugh said police officers were talking with the truck driver. But, he doesn't know if he was charged.
