Funeral Set for NH FF who Died after Shift

Rye Fire Rescue Lt. Charles Gallant, also was president of Local 4411, died Dec. 15 at home.

Funeral services for a Rye Fire Rescue lieutenant have been planned. 

Lt. Charles Gallant, a 20-year veteran of the department, died Dec. 15 at home after working an overnight shift, the department announced on its Facebook page. 

 In 2014 he was awarded the Paul W. Sypek Medal of Valor, which is given to a first responder for conspicuous bravery at extreme risk of life, for assisting in the rescue of a brother firefighter at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Gallant, 56, was president of Local 4411 and was a dedicated advocate of the Rye Toy Bank and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Visitation for fire, rescue and other public safety personnel will be held from 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Public visiting hours will follow from 3-6.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bethany Church, 500 Breakfast Hill Road, Greenland. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to a charity near and dear to Chuck’s heart, the Rye Toy Bank, PO Box 704, Rye, NH 03870.
