Man Wields Chainsaw at Eaton Rapids, MI, Firefighters, Police

Eaton Rapids firefighters encountered the resident as they responded to an open burning call.

EATON RAPIDS, MI – A man was arrested after allegedly threatening police officers and firefighters with a chainsaw, police said.

Around 11:37 a.m. Wednesday, two police officers, along with firefighters, responded to a complaint about an open burning violation on Lake Street in Eaton Rapids, WILX reports.

They encountered a 44-year-old man who, after initial contact, allegedly started a chainsaw and threatened the officers and firefighters with it, the report said. He eventually dropped the weapon and fled into his home where he barricaded himself in a bedroom.

After calling for backup, officers entered the home, the report said. When the man refused to leave the bedroom, they forced entry. The suspect allegedly resisted arrest but was taken into custody. No injuries were reported. The suspect is lodged in Eaton County Jail awaiting charges.
