GLOBE, DUPONT and the NATIONAL VOLUNTEER FIRE COUNCIL (NVFC) announce three more recipients in the 2013 Globe Gear Giveaway Program. Axtell, NE, Volunteer Fire and Rescue and the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department in Duffield, VA, will each receive four sets of gear and the Lilbourn, MO, Volunteer Fire Department will receive two sets.

“We are pleased to announce the third round of gear recipients,” said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg. “These departments demonstrated a critical need for new sets of gear and will benefit greatly from the donation, both in terms of safety and morale. We commend Globe and DuPont for making this program possible.”

PIERCE MANUFACTURING has received an order for nine Pierce Arrow XT custom pumpers from the DeKalb County Fire and Rescue Department in Georgia. This is the department’s first purchase of Pierce apparatus. The vehicles will be delivered beginning in early 2014.

“The opportunity to build these Pierce custom pumpers for one of the busiest fire departments in the country is an acknowledgement of our team’s ability to engineer and deliver state-of-the-art apparatus at a lower overall cost of ownership, and then back them with the industry’s best dealer network,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corp. executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “For many years to come, these trucks will provide excellent service to the citizens and taxpayers of DeKalb County.”

Each of the nine pumpers feature a 400-hp engine, galvanneal steel body, 10-inch raised roof cab and seating for five firefighters. The apparatus also feature Pierce Command Zone advanced electronics and control system, a 1,000-gpm water pump, 500-gallon water tank, 30-gallon foam cell and three crosslays.

Pierce also has received a contract for a Pierce Dash CF 100-foot aerial platform from the Midlothian, TX, Fire Department. The new aerial platform will join three Dash CF pumpers already in service, making the Midlothian Fire Department the nation’s first all Dash CF fleet.

“Our department is very thankful that its front-line fleet will soon be 100% Dash CF apparatus,” Midlothian Fire Chief David Schrodt said. “The smooth ride, excellent handling and roomy cab interior are all great features. And we really like that the entire chassis is lower to the ground for easier entry and exit; being lower to the ground positions everything – like crosslays and equipment – within easier reach.”
