Sen. Blumenthal Visits Defibtech in Recognition of Company’s “E” Award Honor
January 13, 2025, Guilford, CT – Defibtech, a U.S. manufacturer of life-saving medical equipment, welcomed Senator Richard Blumenthal to their Branford, CT manufacturing facility on Friday to celebrate the company’s recent “E” Award. The “E” Award is the highest recognition a person or U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
In May of 2024, members of the company’s executive team travelled to Washington D.C. to participate in the 63rd anniversary of the “E” Awards ceremony, where a total of 64 U.S. companies and organizations from 32 states were presented with the President’s “E” and “E Star” Awards.
“We were honored to host Senator Blumenthal at our manufacturing facility,” said Joseph Mullally, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for Defibtech. “We showed him our operations and he was able to meet and greet our employees whose hard work led to Defibtech’s success in expanding our international export business and to receiving this prestigious award.”
Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, in her congratulatory letter to the company stated, “The "E" Awards Committee recognizes Defibtech’s significant percentage of export sales to total sales. The company’s investment in certifications to support future export sales was also notable. Defibtech’s achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs.”
“The U.S. Commercial Service’s Connecticut office is thrilled that Defibtech’s export achievements were recognized with a President’s “E” Award,” said Melissa Grosso, Director, U.S. Commercial Service for the Connecticut Office. “Defibtech’s strong international sales of defibrillators not only help increase jobs here in Connecticut, but also help save lives around the world. The Defibtech team is a point of pride here in Connecticut.”
American companies are nominated for “E” Awards through the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service office network, located within the Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
The visit is also timely as Defibtech celebrates the passage of life-saving federal legislation strengthening access to AEDs. H.R. 6829, The Cardiomyopathy Health Education, Awareness, and Research, and AED Training in the Schools (HEARTS) Act of 2024, passed the United States House of Representatives in October and passed the Senate unanimously in December, demonstrating widespread bipartisan support. It was signed into law by the President on Christmas Eve.
