Life Scan Wellness Centers Receives Virginia Governor's Fire Service Award for Private Sector Excellence
The Governor’s Fire Service Awards were established in 2002 as a formal recognition of excellence in Virginia's Fire Services. The awards are presented annually to recipients in eight categories. This category recognizes private sector excellence in dedication and support to the fire service agencies throughout the Commonwealth.
Life Scan is the nation’s largest provider of comprehensive early detection physicals for first responders, serving with the mission of “saving those that save us.” Focusing exclusively on the occupational health needs of fire departments and law enforcement throughout the Commonwealth with onsite enhanced physicals, Life Scan has identified countless significant lifesaving findings that have been detected early enough to allow for successful health outcomes and return to work. One such publicized account is that of Albemarle County firefighter Sean Ryan whose kidney cancer was detected by Life Scan and successfully treated. This is one of many similar stories of first responder survival across the Commonwealth which contributed to this award, along with the support of the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, and the Fire Department Safety Officers Association.
In receiving the award at the Virginia Fire Conference in Virginia Beach, retired fire chief and Life Scan Deputy CEO Chief Todd LeDuc said, “this recognition by the Governor is a testament to our employees who are the tip of the spear in protecting the health of first responders and those departments which embrace early detection for their employees. We could not be prouder.” This award comes on the heels of Life Scan receiving the Billy Goldfeder Fire Service Organizational Safety Award from the International Association of Fire Chiefs in 2024.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award but are even more honored to be blessed with the privilege of serving first responders”, said Life Scan co-founders Patricia Johnson and Mike Terrana.
