UNITED PLASTIC FABRICATING INC. (UPF) Vice President of Sales and Marketing Bill Bruns will retire effective Oct. 31.
“It’s going to be different around UPF, it’s going to be different without Bruns in the fire industry as well,” said Joe Lingel, UPF president/CEO.
Bruns first became involved in the fire industry in 1966 at Grumman Corp.’s Aerospace Division. By 1988, he was president of its Emergency Products Division. He later joined Ladder Tower Inc. (LTI) as their vice president of sales and marketing. In 1995, he was named vice president of sales and marketing at UPF.
Bruns has been involved in many industry associations. In 1990, while he was its president, Grumman Emergency Products was the first corporation to become a sponsor of the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) Internship Program. He served on the CFSI Advisory Board from 1992 to 2013. For the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers’ Association (FAMA) he assisted in the development of its articles of incorporation and bylaws and was voted onto the FAMA Board of Directors as treasurer at the organizational meeting of FAMA in 1990. He also was FAMA treasurer, secretary, vice president, president and bylaws chair. This year, he received the first FAMA Lifetime Achievement Award. Bruns also was a member of the Fire and Emergency Manufacturers and Services Association (FEMSA), National Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians (NAEVT) and Pennsylvania Fire Service Institute (PFSI).
UPF has named Timothy Wareham director of sales and marketing. “Tim has a strong record of achievement in executive-level sales management positions,” Lingel said. “He is no stranger to fire trucks and the fire industry. He has been in public service for many years, first with the Mineola Ambulance Corps and currently as an on-call firefighter and member of the Board of Fire Engineers for the Town of Newbury, MA. This combination of sales and marketing experience and enthusiasm for the fire industry will serve him well.”
“I am saddened to leave an industry that I have enjoyed for over 30 years,” Bruns said. “But I am confident that Tim will provide excellent support and service to all of UPF’s customers. Tim’s experience as a firefighter and former chief is a great asset as we move forward.”
SCOTT SAFETY and MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS have signed a product-development agreement designed to enhance firefighter safety and accountability. Central to the agreement is the capability to transmit critical Scott Air-Pak self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) data, such as air levels and personal alert safety system (PASS) alarm data, over Motorola APX Project 25 portable radios.
The Motorola APX radio pairs to Scott’s Air-Pak X3 SCBA via Mission Critical Wireless. The airtank telemetry is sent over the ASTRO 25 network whenever the firefighter presses the push-to-talk (PTT) button. This data is displayed on the Motorola Solutions APX accountability solution or Scott’s accountability solution. Scott and Motorola have already validated the capability to transmit Scott Air-Pak SCBA data through Motorola APX portable radios.
