FORT COLLINS, CO — Command Light, a leading manufacturer of light towers for the fire and emergency industry, announced the winner of its See the Difference Tower Giveaway via a random Live Facebook drawing on Nov. 1, 2019. Chief Christopher Tell of Swansea (IL) Fire Department was the winning recipient a Shadow Series SL442D-FX light tower with FRC Spectra Max fixtures.
Swansea, a town of 13,500 people in the St. Louis metropolitan area, is a combination department with one full-time firefighter and 37 paid-per-call firefighters, operating out of two engine houses.
More than 175 official registrations were collected; to receive the official registration link, entrants had to attend a live Command Light demo. The demos were designed to show departments what they’ve been missing when they spec only truck-mounted perimeter lights. The demos showed departments how gathered light can maximize the department’s LED investment, elevate light above helmet brims to reduce glare and provide other directional features, like combo optics, optional backlight and Command Light’s unique streetlight position.
Chief Tell said the timing of the giveaway win couldn’t have been better as the department just took possession of a new 2019 Spartan Engine. “We’re excited to add another great product to our department,” Tell said. “We currently have a Command Light Knight Series on our Rescue, and it’s been essential to providing needed lighting during emergency incidents and at training events. We want to thank Command Light for continuing to design products that improve the safety and well-being of all first responders.”
The Shadow Series SL442D-FX with backlight is valued at $18,000 list price.
“We decided this was an investment we wanted to make this year because we’re extremely passionate about light towers and the safety they bring to the scene,” Command Light Owner Roger Weinmeister said. “We wanted to help educate firefighters on effective lighting and how there is value in an elevated light source, both for reducing glare and shining into ditches or other low areas. Plus, we’re excited this tower is destined for a great department.”
Weinmeister also wanted to give a special thanks to FRC (Fire Research Corp., a Safe Fleet brand) for contributing the light tower fixtures. “This giveaway wouldn’t be possible without partners like FRC,” Weinmeister said.
