A Virginia firefighter who had been missing since late July has been found dead.
The body of Richmond firefighter Daniel Lewis, 30, was discovered by police in the Charlotte, NC, area, WAVY-TV reports. Authorities don't currently suspect foul play in Lewis' death.
“It is with great sadness that the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services acknowledges the death of one of its members, Firefighter Daniel Lewis,” Lt. Chris Armstrong said Monday in an emailed statement, according to The Daily Press in Newport News.
The firefighter was reported missing July 29 after he didn't report to work. Police performed a welfare check last week on Lewis' Newport News home, where he lived while commuting to Richmond.
Quinton Coleman, Lewis' close friend, told the Daily Press that Lewis was loyal and loved his family. He added that Lewis loved alone and wasn't married.
Lewis had worked at the Richmond Fire Department for about a year. He also worked for three years with Roanoke Fire-EMS, starting in 2013, according to WSLS-TV. He also worked as a part-time medic at the Busch Gardens and Water County USA amusement parks, Coleman told the Daily Press.
