A retired Waukegan firefighter died after contracting COVID-19.
Ken Harvey, who retired as a fire captain, fell ill a few weeks ago, according to WGN.
Harvey's son, Rob, also a Waukegan firefighter, is currently battling COVID-19.
“When I seen my dad began to succumb to it there was a realization that this is as bad as people say it is,” son Rob said.
“It’s like a bomb that just went off and there’s nothing you can do about it,” said Harvey's wife of nearly 50 years, Cindy. “It was a nightmare not to be able to be together.”
