As tributes pour in for Memphis Lt. Jeffrey Norman, officials announced Thursday afternoon the fire was arson.
The fire started in a dumpster and spread to the carport and house, investigators have determined.
Norman, a 20-year veteran with the department, and three other firefighters became trapped while trying to extinguish the fire.
One firefighter remains hospitalized while the others have been released.
