Vietnam Veteran's Drills Saved Thousands at WTC on 9/11

Morgan Stanley Security Head Rick Rescorla held regular escape drills for employees knowing another attack was probable.

The stories of heroic actions on 9/11 continue to surface even after 22 years.

Rick Rescorla, a Vietnam veteran, is credited with saving thousands of lives after the South Tower was hit.

The security chief at Morgan Stanley held regular escape drills that surely annoyed some employees, News Nation reported.

His gut told him another attack on the World Trade Center was probable. He didn't know when but he insisted his co-workers were ready.

After the jet struck the tower, he grabbed a megaphone and instructed them to do what they had practiced. And, they did.

Once they were out on the street, he went back in to make sure no one was still there.

Just before the towers came down, he called his wife Susan.

“He said stop crying. You have to know that I love you so much. And, and tomorrow, the world will be looking at looking at us, meaning the United States of America. He knew something was going to happen, and he was right."

Rescorla’s remains were never recovered.

“I go put flowers there every year and I also have a spot over by the Raptor Trust where the eagles are that he loved so much. I go there many, many times just to be with him.”
