Thousands gathered in Leesburg this morning to pay their final respects to a Sterling firefighter killed in a gas explosion last month.
Firefighter Trevor Brown started with Loudoun County's combined fire and rescue service in 2016. He was killed while he and others were investigating a gas leak at a house.
Ten firefighters were injured including four who were hospitalized. One remains in serious condition while the others have been released.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin ordered that flags be lowered to have-staff Monday in honor of Brown, who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
“He was a really dependable guy. In any organization, you’ve got the rank-and-file, that solid guy in the middle that is really rowing the boat really hard that you depend on,” Sterling Fire Chief David Short told the Times-Mirror. “When you hear, ‘Oh, Trevor's on the project,’ you go, ‘Okay, it's done.’”
