Off-Duty Jackson, MS, Firefighter Killed in Shooting

A woman was arrested by Jackson's SWAT police officers after an off-duty firefighter was killed in a shooting.

Editor's note: Police have charged Tammy Williams, who lived with Gerald Bates, in the shooting.

Police said a woman in custody in connection with a shooting that claimed an off-duty Jackson firefighter Sunday.

The victim was identified as Gerald Bates, 49, Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade told WJTV.com.

Officers were called to the scene on Ferguson Drive where Bates was found deceased. 

SWAT officers arrested Tammy Williams, who they named as the suspect in the shooting.
