The wife of a Fort Worth firefighter burned during a mayday call talks about the days since the fire.

The wife of a Fort Worth firefighter who was seriously injured at a house fire Monday, said she knew something was wrong when the fire department called her.

"I had a feeling,” Brooke Huddleston told WFAA.com, saying that when she answered, it wasn't her husband, James (JB) Huddleston.

To alleviate her initial concerns, they put JB on the phone with her and, “He was like, 'Hey, just letting you know had a little incident, and we’re just going to take a ride to the hospital,'” Brooke recalled of that conversation.

He was one of three firefighters who were taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, after they were forced to bail out second-story windows when fire conditions changed rapidly.

Two firefighters were released that night, but JB has been in the burn unit since he arrived.

It was a little bit worse than we had anticipated,” Brooke told the television station. "It’s a lot, but when you’re on the burn floor and you see what could be, you have nothing but gratitude for where we’re at. We know we’re gonna make it were gonna be okay but the biggest thing that we ask is just continued prayers.”

JB's father, Ron, is a retired Fort Worth firefighter and said he knew that, when they were being taken 30 miles to Parkland Hospital, the injuries were serious.

"That's the last thing you want for them, that's the last thing you want for their children and that's the last thing that you want for their spouse," Ron said.

JB continues to receive treatment for burns to his arms, legs and stomach.
