Sacramento Metro, CA, Firefighters Get Screening for Esophageal Cancer

Firefighters' necks are often exposed to toxic substances while performing their duties.

Firefighters are at high risk for esophageal cancer.

That's why Sacramento Metro firefighters are being tested. If it comes back positive, that doesn't necessarily indicate cancer, KCRA reported.

Sacramento Metro Firefighter Patrick Gallagher said crews are often exposed to substances in the neck area.

He said it's important the firefighters take advantage of the tests.
