Clopay Introduces New Thermiser Max - Low U Insulated Rolling Door
Mason, Ohio (October, 2024) –– Clopay® Corporation, a leader in closure products for commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and retail applications, introduces its next-generation Thermiser Max® - Low U Insulated Rolling Door. With a U-factor rating of 0.532, the Thermiser Max - Low U Door is the most energy efficient rolling door on the market and has been validated by third-party testing using the door industry’s most accurate measure of thermal performance. The low U-factor is made possible by Clopay Corporation’s innovative CPVC backer that creates a thermal break in the curtain assembly and notably lowers the thermal transfer rate compared to metal-on-metal joint assemblies. The Thermiser Max - Low U Door is ideal for exterior applications where climate control and energy efficiency are critical, such as warehouses and heavy equipment storage facilities.
“The Thermiser Max - Low U Door pulls out all the stops for insulated rolling door performance,” said Heather Bender, director of commercial product marketing. “Not only does it feature the most accurate measure of thermal performance with its impressively low U-factor test results, but it also accounts for other critical performance measures, like its ASTM E84 rating and its Sound Transmission Rating. Altogether, these features make it possible to create environments that are more comfortable and energy-efficient than ever before.”
Focus on U-factor
The new Thermiser Max - Low U Door represents a shift in the way manufacturers measure the thermal performance of rolling doors. Historically, the industry focused on R-value as the primary measure of thermal performance. R-value measures the thermal resistance of a singular point on a rolling door, typically a slat. Comparatively, U-factor measures the thermal transmittance of the entire assembly of the rolling door, making it a more accurate indicator of performance because it accounts for all points in the assembly.
Energy Cost Savings For users of the Thermiser Max - Low U Door, the low 0.532 U-factor translates into measurable savings. Annual adjusted energy cost savings based on HVAC efficiency for users in Climate Zone 1 (hot) and Climate Zone 6 (cold) are calculated at $327 and $920, respectively. These calculations are based on a building that is heated or cooled 24 hours per day, an HVAC system operating at 90% efficiency, and an electricity cost of $0.16 per kWH.
Testing and Performance Standards
Building on the energy efficiency and performance of Clopay Corporation’s popular Thermiser Series, the Thermiser Max - Low U Door design delivers its low 0.532 U-factor when third-party tested per DASMA-105, and it is ASTM E84 rated. The door also offers a Sound Transmission Rating (STC) of up to 27 for the full assembly and meets ASHRAE® 90.12, IECC® 2021, and California’s Title 24 air infiltration requirements with an independently tested value of < 0.3 CFM/ft2.
