To address its growing population, the city of Lebanon undertook the addition of the new Station 3, strategically positioned to reduce emergency response times and extend the fire department’s coverage for enhanced public safety. The facility’s design was coordinated and programmed with the city to result in a cost-effective solution to emergency services architecture without sacrificing space or function. In the face of market cost escalations, innovative solutions were harnessed to design a facility for less than $300 per square foot.
Through a strategic blend of cost-effective materials and custom finishes, the department’s identity is proudly showcased on the exterior without incurring excessive costs. The exterior design of the station pays homage to the Lebanon Fire Department’s legacy, incorporating its iconic black and gold colors. This visual representation of identity not only distinguishes the station but also reinforces the department’s connection with the community that it serves.
A cornerstone of the design is the optimization of firefighter living quarters. Through mindful spatial planning, square footage was minimized without compromising crucial storage capacity. This ensures a compact yet highly functional living space that prioritizes the well-being and comfort of dedicated responders.
To enhance districtwide operational efficiency, the new facility offers dedicated formal offices for department administration. By consolidating dispersed administrative functions, a centralized hub that promotes seamless communication, collaboration and future growth was created.
Central to the project’s ethos is a tribute to the sacrifices that were made by firefighters. The inclusion of a prominent 9/11 memorial piece stands as a formal and impactful display, commemorating the unwavering dedication of fire departments and their members. This tribute serves as a source of inspiration and reflection for the public, which fosters a profound sense of community and unity.
