Police are investigating an overnight break-in at the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company's station that left much of the equipment vandalized.
“To be honest with you, I wanted to cry when I saw it,” Clarksville Fire Chief Scott Sharp told local television station WVIB Sunday. “Many of the members, we pour our heart and souls into our equipment. And to come back and see someone slap us in the face, it’s disgusting.”
A window was broken and then the vandals spray painted the apparatus, helmets, and turnout gear.
Officials estimated the damage between $40,000 to $50,000 and other equipment, including computers, were also damaged.
Sharp said the department is able to raise $8,000 a year.
In a post on the fire company's Facebook page, the department said they are down to two rigs that can respond to incidents.
The Amity Rescue Squad has offered a $250 reward for information and the Clarksville Fire Company matched it.
