July 19 -- The new Brookville Fire Station 76 will be open to the public on Sunday for an open house to showcase the 12-bay building.
The station — for which the city issued $6.3 million in bonds — was put into service at the end of last month. It is expected to be used for the next 50-70 years.
The station, located at 775 Upper Lewisburg Salem Road, has features unique in the area.
“I think it’s everything we need. It is extremely modern from a world where we came from, where everything was 30 years behind, and it’s a lot nicer to have everything under one roof,” said firefighter/paramedic Jordan Schoening. “We have a facility that was built to be a firehouse, not adapted to be a firehouse.”
One room that is unique to this station is the Emergency Operations Center. The EOC is used at a training room and can serve as the dispatch center if the main dispatch center has any issues.
The biggest room in the station is the bay area, which holds all the emergency vehicles. It features 12 bays that include one drive-through bay and a clean bay. The clean bay will be used when equipment needs to be washed.
Another feature to the new station is a room right off the clean bay that has the emergency shower and cleaners in it. When firefighters are exposed to rough or hazardous elements, they can take a shower without exposing the whole fire house with the elements.
The clean room is equipped with a large washer and a standup dryer for the gear. The firefighters can hang their gear on a rack and place dryer wands throughout their gear.
The kitchen is industrial size. With the two older stations closing, all the firefighters will be under one roof.
The new station has many rooms to explore at the open house. It has eight dorm rooms, laundry room, training room, day room, computer room, locker room and gear room. The front entrance has a fountain made from an old fire hydrant.
The open house is Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the new station. Contact Fire Chief Ron Fletcher at 937-833-2135 for more information.
