A vehicle crashed into San Diego Fire-Rescue's Station 9 on Saturday night, narrowly missing firefighters as they were eating dinner.

Nov. 4 -- A car slammed into a La Jolla fire station Saturday night, coming close to firefighters but causing no injuries, authorities said.

Three people were in the car when it veered off the road and took out a section of the wall at San Diego Fire-Rescue Department’s station 9 on Ardath Lane near Torrey Pines Road, police and fire officials said.

The crash, which happened about 7:30 p.m., severed a natural gas line to an exterior barbecue. A San Diego Gas & Electric Co. crew was called in to make repairs to the line.

“Crews were eating dinner when they heard a loud noise. A car ran into the wall outside the station,” San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Joseph Scuri told OnScene TV. “They were about 12 feet away, eating dinner in the kitchen.”

Scuri said damage was limited to a patio wall at the station.

A structural engineer was evaluating the extent of damage to the building, according to a Fire Department tweet.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
