Police: OH Firefighter Slugs Chief, Cop at Station

A Mason firefighter-EMT faces felony charges after allegedly assaulting his chief and a police officer at the department's Montgomery Road station.

An Ohio firefighter is accused of assaulting his chief and a police officer at a firehouse, according to police reports.

The altercation happened at around 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mason Fire Department's Montgomery Road station, WCPO-TV reports. Firefighter-EMT Joseph Mikal Bales, 27, allegedly punched Fire Chief Bryan Brumagen twice in the face and also punched a Mason police sergeant in the face, according to WXIX-TV.

Bales was charged with two felony counts of assault, a felony for disrupting public service and a misdemeanor for resisting arrest. Braumagen and the police sergeant both suffered minor injuries.

A city spokeswoman told WCPO that Bales had been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending an investigation. No motive was given for the incident.
