Firefighters at the Mayfield Graves Fire-Rescue Squad are left with very little after Friday’s tornado destroyed their station and everything inside it.
As the deadly tornado approached Mayfield, department members sought shelter on the edge of town, only to return to find that their station was gone. The bulk of their equipment and three tankers were heavily damaged.
"Then we come back and it's like this," said Chief David Warner talking about the fire station, told WPSD Local 6. "We had a lot of guys in tears. Hell, I was in tears when I saw it. I just couldn't believe it. I wish we could have gotten all of our trucks out, it just didn't happen. We're just having to grasp at straws to do whatever we got to do to make sure we still respond, and we're going to still respond."
The Mayfield Graves Fire-Rescue Squad has started a GoFundMe page to help with their efforts to rebuild the station and purchase the equipment.
