The Trumann Fire Department is seeking input from the community to reconstruct Fire Station 1 after it sustained heavy damage from a tornado in December.
Trumann Fire Chief Revis Kemper said in a Facebook post that he personally requested a fire station building committee consisting of citizens, firefighters, and city council members to participate in the process.
The department's efforts to reconstruct Fire Station 1 were sidelined when Arkansas did not meet the federal requirements for assistance, stalling reconstruction efforts.
Since the damage occurred, firefighters have been working out of Station 2 that was built to house vehicles with no crew quarters, KAIT 8 reported.
The department was able to obtain a former FEMA mobile doctor’s office from Federal Surplus in North Little Rock to use as both sleeping and office space.
He believes the fire department is a critical infrastructure for the city and should be constructed in conjunction with input from the members the city.
Revis noted that the process will take a great deal of time and hopes that through community involvement the new facility will be something everyone can be proud of.
