FL Firefighters Worried New Station May Become Other Agency's Home

Aug. 22, 2022
Mount Dora officials are considering moving another city department into the building.

Firefighters in Mount Dora have watched with anticipation as a new station was under construction.

Now, however, they may not be moving in at all.

A special workshop to discuss giving the station to another city department is set for Monday. The measure was introduced recently by the city manager, Fox35 reported.

"Should that decision be finalized, it would really hinder response times and service to the west side of the city of Mount Dora. So, it’s not just a matter of hurting us as employees, it hurts the citizens," IAFF Local 3088 Vice President Robert Bridgeman told reporters.

Firefighters have been operating out the main station and a temporary one.

"It’s four double-wide trailers put together with a bay at the end of it that we’re using as a fire station," Bridgeman explained.

The manager's proposal includes a plan to consolidate all firefighters in a future station.
