Fort Atkinson, WI, November 8, 2024—Firehouse Magazine announced the winners of its 11th annual Station Design Awards program, which recognizes outstanding architecture and design from fire departments and emergency facilities nationwide.
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were issued across seven categories of facilities in this prestigious competition: Career 1, Career 2, Joint Facilities, Renovations, Satellite, Training Facilities and Volunteer/Combination. All 64 participating entries have been be published in the November issue of Firehouse. Of particular note, 29 nominations were entered by architectural firms who didn't submit projects last year.
Firehouse Editor-in-Chief Peter Matthews said, “In the 11 years since Firehouse has held the Station Design Awards, the efforts to improve living and working areas for firefighters have improved exponentially. Through the Station Design Conference and publication of the Station Design Awards, fire departments are better educated and prepared for their planning process with architects and builders to understand current conditions and prepare for future factors that are critical in the day-to-day operations of every community’s first line of defense while taking care of the people who work there.”
According to Rich Dzierwa, Firehouse Magazine Managing Editor, who supervised the Station Design Awards project, “Every entry in the 2024 Station Design Awards is a winner for its improvement in health and safety for personnel and the services that they provide to their community.”
Winners were selected by a panel of seven judges, including fire chiefs and architects who are experienced in recent design and construction.
