Response times are better now in a section of Winter Garden with the opening of a temporary fire station.
A new station was approved in 2018, but the pandemic delayed construction, Chief Jose Gainza told WKMG.
When that happened, he said the department and city worked together to come up with a temporary solution to bring faster services to residents.
"When people have heart attacks and when they’re not breathing you know brain tissue, heart tissue dies without oxygen. So being able to respond quickly, in a timely fashion, could mean the difference between saving someone’s life or not,” he said.
The permanent station which is being designed will house nine members, a fire engine, a rescue truck. Construction on the 9.000-square-foot building is set to begin in May.
