Deadly Tornado Destroys TN Fire Station

Dec. 11, 2023
The Rutherford Fire Department station collapsed onto apparatus as the tornado rolled through.

A tornado destroyed the Rutherford fire station in Tennessee Saturday.

The structure fell onto the fire apparatus. There was no word about any injuries at the station.

In nearby Madison, one mobile home rolled onto another leaving three dead. Authorities found the body of a mother with her arms wrapped around her son, who also had perished. The man in the flipped home also was killed, CNN reported.

Another three people, including a child, were killed in Clarksville, where a tornado packing peak winds of 150 mph carved a path more than 11 miles long and left hundreds of severely damaged buildings in its wake.

Thousands are without power and there is no word when it will be restored.

While Clarksville police and fire officials were surveying damage, they paused briefly as a little girl starting singing "All I Want for Christmas is You."

States of Emergency have been declared in counties hardest hit by the tornadoes.
