The Town of Rolesville will soon have an official fire department.
For nearly 70 years, firefighters with the Rolesville Rural Fire Department have responded.
However, the town recently signed an agreement with the fire department to merge on July 1, 2025, WCNC reported.
Fire Chief Donnie Lawrence said with the $13 million approved by the town, they’ve already purchased property for a couple more fire stations in the future.
There are currently 13 firefighters and there are plans to hire six to eight more as the department prepares for new residents and structures. Volunteer crews will continue to respond as well.
“The town is annexing more property and the more annexations, the more responsibility the fire department has,” Lawrence said.
