Garfield Township, MI, Firefighters Reeling after Station Collapses During Blaze
The Garfield Township fire station was destroyed and apparatus damaged by a blaze Wednesday morning.
A passerby saw the fire and called 9-1-1.
"Everybody is just at a loss for words, reactions, feelings. This is something new for us," Fire Chief Bryan Neumeyer told WNEM.
While the rigs were driven out of the station, the chief said he doesn't know the extent of damage yet. Among the apparatus was one they purchased last year for $780,000.
Neighboring fire companies will be responding to calls in Garfield Township.
Neumeyer said some of the founding members who built the station have been stopping by.
The station's roof collapsed during the fire that remains under investigation.
