Detroit Fire Department’s 10 new Smeal pumpers feature 1,500-gpm Waterous pumps, 500-gallon UPF tanks, midship pump panels and front suctions. The fire bodies and the Smeal GS-36 body sub-frames are constructed of stainless steel. The custom pumper bodies features a classic rear beavertail design, roll-up compartment doors and low hosebed height. Each pumper is built on a Spartan Metro Star cab and chassis with a 400-hp Cummins engines and Allison 3000EVS transmissions. The chassis feature the industry’s most progressive Advanced Protection System(APS). Six more Smeal rescue-pumpers are on order.
