The Palmerdale, AL, Fire District has purchased a Ferrara Igniter pumper to replace a 2001 pumper made by a competitor. The pumper is powered by a Cummins ISL 450-hp engine and an Allison transmission. The apparatus is also equipped with a Hale 1,500 pump and a 1,000-gallon tank to fight fire. Other equipment includes a full Whelen NFPA LED warning light package, Whelen Pioneer LED scene lights, LED Headlights, a Federal Q siren, two-tone black over red paint, Robinson roll-up doors, a TFT Hurricane remote controls, Alcoa aluminum wheels, and officer's side cameras for additional safety. Palmerdale firefighters protect a primarily rural area with a population of about 14,500 residents in a 50 square mile area. They cover two major state highways, and a CSX Railway and Northern Beltline system under construction. It was sold by Mike Sims, regional manager for Ferrara in Alabama.
