KS Firefighter Hurt in Apparatus Crash

A Columbus Fire and Rescue firefighter apparently blacked out behind the wheel, which caused the truck to travel off the road and strike a tree.

A firefighter with the Columbus, KS, Fire and Rescue apparently suffered a medical emergency that caused him to run off the road and hit a tree.

The firefighter, who has not been identified, was responding to a fire alarm activation, according to the news agency, Four States Home Page.

The medical condition apparently caused him to pass out behind the while driving and the truck travelled off the road and hit a tree causing extensive damage to the apparatus.

The truck driver was taken to a local hospital where he was being observed while doctors determine what caused him to black out.

Kansas Highway Patrol officers are investigating the crash that left the apparatus out of service.
