A 67-year-old man died this week after he rammed his Honda Accord into the side of a Hollywood fire truck on Stirling Road, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The Hollywood fire truck was in emergency mode, lights flashing, as it made a left toward the on-ramp for northbound Interstate 95 when it was T-boned a little before 10 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
Afterward, the Honda driver, Brian Huntley, told firefighters he was feeling chest pains, said Sgt. Don Prichard, a sheriff’s spokesman.
The Pembroke Pines man was taken from the crash scene in Dania Beach to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. There, he was pronounced dead, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The other driver was identified as George Burns, 50, of Hollywood. Records show he is a Hollywood firefighter.
Huntley’s Honda Accord “collided with the right side of the fire truck near the rear wheel assembly in a T-bone type crash,” Prichard said.
The Hollywood firefighters riding in the emergency vehicle treated Huntley at the scene and took him to the hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The traffic homicide investigation is ongoing.
