Fire Equipment Association Selects Conn. Chief for Safety Award
The Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association has selected Robert Ross, Fire Chief and CEO of South Fire District in Middletown, Connecticut, for its Fire Safety Advocate Award.
The award is given to a person who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the safety of the public through innovative efforts, including legislative, educational, enforcement or other effective means.
“Robert Ross’ dedication to the protection of the public from fire has been noted throughout his career," said Bill Vegso, president of the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association. "His work as State Fire Marshal, Executive Director of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and Fire Chief indicate just how dedicated he is to the public safety mission. We wanted to recognize Chief Ross’ service to the citizens of Connecticut, both in his current position and past endeavors, by presenting him with this prestigious award.”
Chief Ross has 33 years of experience in fire protection, emergency management, administration and senior-level management. He is also a dedicated community servant, having served on various local, state and national committees as a member, board member, or in some instances, committee chairman or president. These organizations include the American Red Cross, NFPA (NFPA 10 Principal Member), International Association of Fire Chiefs, International Association of Firefighters, International Fire Service Training Association, Middletown Emergency Management, and Middlesex Hospital BIO-Terrorism Taskforce.
In addition, Chief Ross volunteers for other altruistic enterprises, including United Way and National Exchange Clubs, and is a member of his local high school’s board of trustees.
“Chief Ross is the type of individual every community needs to enhance its level of fire safety and its overall quality of life,” added Vegso. “These attributes make him the ideal candidate for the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association’s Fire Safety Advocate Award.”
Robert Ross will be formally presented with the Fire Safety Advocate Award during the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association’s Annual Meeting on October 21-23, 2015 in Palm Beach, Florida.
