Breda, IA (March 1, 2024) – The City of Covington, the county seat of Fountain County, Indiana, was established in 1826. The longstanding community is protected by the Covington Fire Department (CFD), which recently accepted delivery of a new pumper fire apparatus from Iowa-based manufacturer, Toyne, Inc.
In 2022, the CFD entered an agreement with the City of Covington, and neighboring Troy Township (Troy Mound VFD), to purchase a new apparatus from Toyne. The customized pumper will be shared by the two departments to assist with firefighting and emergency response capabilities.
CFD’s new Toyne Pumper was built on a bolted painted stainless steel body and was mounted on a Spartan FC94 MFD chassis with a 10" raised roof. Powering the pumper is a Cummins ISL9 450 horsepower engine and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission.

The population of Covington, Indiana was 2,669 in 2021. Troy Township is one of seven townships in neighboring Perry County and has a total area of over 44 square miles. According to the 2010 US Census, Troy Township has a population of nearly 12,000 residents.
