SPARTAN MOTORS INC. has announced the appointment of Daryl Adams as chief operating officer, effective Aug. 11. Adams reports to John Sztykiel, Spartan’s chief executive officer. 

“I am pleased to welcome Daryl to Spartan Motors, where his skill in driving operational excellence will help accelerate the pace of improvement throughout the company. He also brings a results-oriented, global approach and focus on continuous improvement that Spartan needs in a chief operating officer,” Sztykiel said. “We look forward to working with Daryl to accelerate our operational improvement efforts and deliver the growth and positive results shareholders expect.”

Adams was most recently chief executive officer of Midway Products Group, an automotive supplier. He holds an MBA from Michigan State University and a bachelor of science degree in industrial management and manufacturing from Lawrence Institute of Technology.

Also, Thomas Schultz has joined Spartan Motors as vice president of human resources. He reports to Sztykiel.

“Tom brings a wealth of experience and skills that include operations, human resources and talent development, as well as a background in managing large manufacturing facilities and senior roles in human resources,” Sztykiel said. “In addition to working for large, heavy manufacturing companies, he has expertise with small, specialty manufacturers that I am confident will prove valuable to Spartan. Some of his more notable skills include ensuring that policies, people and business strategy align to support profitable growth, people development and succession planning.”

Schultz previously was employed by United Technologies, Energy Conversion Devices and United Solar Ovonics, and American Axle and Manufacturing. He received a law degree from the University of Detroit, a master’s degree in labor and industrial relations from Michigan State University and a bachelor’s degree in political science and public administration from Western Michigan University.

FIRE-DEX, a manufacturer of firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE), has announced the appointment of Steve Allison as the director of sales, effective Aug. 25, 2014. He will manage all sales functions, including management of the regional sales team. Allison has more than 25 years of experience in the fire industry, recently serving as senior vice president for a another PPE manufacturer

Allison reports to Bill Burke, president of Fire-Dex.

HALE PRODUCTS has promoted Dennis Blackshire to senior quality manager. In addition to managing Hale’s Quality and Continuous Improvement groups, he assumes responsibility for the fabrication and machining centers at the company’s headquarters in Ocala, FL. He has been with the company since December 2013.

“In the short time Dennis has been with the organization, his contributions have been extremely important to our company. He has worked with our suppliers to improve their processes as well as bring new disciplines to our own internal production cells,” Hale Products’ General Manager Bill Simmons said. “The result will be further enhancements to our reputation of bringing superior performing and reliable pumps to the fire service market.”

INVISTA has donated five sets of TECGEN wildland turnout gear to firefighters in Washington State in response to the recent massive wildfire outbreak in Washington and Oregon. The gear was donated and delivered to Douglas County Fire District. Douglas County is near the geographic center of Washington, where firefighters are working to contain wildfire blazes.

“Wildfires have charred hundreds of square miles in Washington State,” said Todd Herring, director of TECGEN protective apparel. “It is a serious situation. To make things even worse, firefighters have been dealing with scorching heat, dry weather and triple digit temperatures. We hope our cool, lightweight gear will benefit firefighters on the front line fighting these fires who are facing heat exhaustion and dehydration.”
